• Medusa I

The concept for Medusas was created around the inspiration of sea life and the way they connect with others. Using the behaviour of jellyfish as a symbol, I wanted to create a connection between people and nature. Jellyfish have roamed the seas for at least 500 million years or more, making them the oldest multi-organ animal, with the ability to light up. Bioluminescence happens when a living organism produces and emits light. There are several theories as to why certain sea creatures have this ability. One theory is that it exists for the purpose of communication.
Medusas is an interactive light installation composed of blown glass bubbles. The glass bubbles light up and respond to a viewer. Like groups of fish, the jellys move as if they were a single entity, creating shifting patterns.
